Quidditch ist ein dynamischer Teamsport mit Vollkörperkontakt: vielseitig, gemischtgeschlechtlich, schnell und taktisch sehr anspruchsvoll - vor allem aber mehr als der Versuch, eine Fantasy-Sportart nachzuahmen. Der Sport vereint Elemente aus Handball, Völkerball/Dodgeball und Rugby und wird auf Rasen gespielt.
Beim Quidditch gibt es je Team vier verschiedene Positionen, die im Spiel miteinander kooperieren und dennoch eigene Aufgaben verfolgen. Die drei Chaser/Jäger*innen eines Teams versuchen den Quaffle durch die Torringe zu werfen und wehren Angriffe ab. Die Keeper/Hüter*innen besitzen in der Verteidigung zusätzliche Fähigkeiten und spielen sonst wie die Chaser. Die beiden Beater/Treiber*innen eines Teams können mit den drei Bludgern gegnerische Spieler*innen abwerfen, um diese kurzzeitig aus dem Spiel zu nehmen. Die Seeker/Sucher*innen nehmen erst ab der 20. Minute am Spiel teil und versuchen, den Snitch (Schnatz) zu fangen. Dieser wird, wie beim Flag Football, an der Hose einer unparteiischen Person befestigt und muss schnellstens gefangen werden. Darüber hinaus sind sicher geregelter Körperkontakt, samt Tackling und aktiver Ballabnahme fester Bestandteil des Sportes.
Ein Relikt der fantastischen Harry Potter-Reihe ist der Besen (eine flexible PVC-Stange). Während des gesamten Spieles wird dieser beim Laufen, Werfen, Fangen und Tackling zwischen den Beinen getragen. Wer von einem Bludger getroffen wird oder den Besen verliert, darf erst nach dem Zurücklaufen zu den eigenen Torringen wieder aktiv am Spiel teilnehmen.
Quidditch gibt es schon seit 2005. Die Bielefelder Basilisken trainieren hier vor Ort seit 2016 zwei bis drei Mal pro Woche. In Deutschland gibt es ca. 50 aktive Teams und es kommen laufend neue dazu. Wir nehmen am Liga-Betrieb teil, spielen Turniere in Deutschland und im Ausland, doch weder Trainings noch Liga- und Turnierbetrieb sind verpflichtend.
Ein Hauptargument für den Sport bleibt die offenherzige Community. Bei uns darf jede*r mitspielen – auch ungeachtet der sportlichen Vorerfahrung! Außerdem gibt es eine „Gender Rule“, die festlegt, dass maximal drei Spieler*innen eines Teams, die sich mit dem gleichen Geschlecht identifizieren, gleichzeitig spielen dürfen. In unserem Sport können sich Personen aller Geschlechter wohlfühlen – innerhalb und außerhalb des binären Geschlechtersystems. So distanziert sich Quidditch auch mit der anstehenden Umbenennung zu Quadball weiter von dem öffentlichen Diskurs rund um die Autorin J.K. Rowling.
